With edging, an actual cut is made in the lawn. This “edge” puts a line between the grass and borders or sidewalks.
Edging gives you cleaner lawn lines, with tidy weed-free borders that don't distort the shape and structure of your lawn’s edges, to keep both your lawn and your garden looking good in every season.
The long, freezing winters in Alberta can leave your lawn looking neglected and in no shape to greet the warmer months ahead. Most lawns could do with some tender loving care to get them going again.
With a little maintenance, such as power raking, aeration, and fertilizer treatment, your lawn will get back to the pristine condition it was in before the ice and snow arrived.
Pests, extreme weather conditions and neglected management can damage lawn, even when the soil is in good condition. If your lawn is a little thin, proper mowing, fertilizing and water practices may be all it needs. However, if that doesn't help, overseeding with a quality lawn seed may be the answer. Before we broadcast the seed over the lawn, we make sure there is good soil-to-seed contact, and rake away any dead grass or debris.
You should typically fertilize your lawn every 6-8 weeks, as when it grows and gets cut, the nutrients in the soil deplete and need to be replenished. Typically you'd feed your lawn once in early spring, once in late spring, once in late summer and finally in the fall, just before the snow comes.
Power raking is the process of removing dead grass and excess thatch from the lawn. We recommend removing thatch once a year in the spring prior to new growth to promote a thicker and healthier lawn. The best time to power rake is April 1 to May 15.
Dethatching is a restorative service only recommend for lawns that suffer from an extremely thick thatch layer.
If your thatch layer is less than 3 inches, we recommend aeration in Spring and Fall as the best method to reduce your thatch. Core aeration pulls plugs of soil and thatch out of the lawn, and the cores of soil break down and populate the thatch with millions of soil microbes that help biodegrade the thatch naturally.
Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn.
The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction. Compacted soils have too many solid particles in a certain volume or space, which prevents proper circulation of air, water and nutrients within the soil.
The clean-up done in your yard in the fall is essential for preparing your lawn for the big winter freeze.
We know what to expect from our climate, so taking steps to prepare your lawn for a healthy period of “shutdown” during the snow and ice will mean that, come the spring, it’s ready to get growing again.
This includes a final cut, raking leaves to allows your grass to breathe and grow roots, and aerating your lawn.
All plants and shrubs, over time, will develop dead or dying branches, leaves, stubs, and flowers. By pruning them you are helping to keep the entire plant healthy. It will also help promote new growth.
Regular trimming keeps trees strong, creates a healthier structure and reduces the need for future corrective Pruning.
We only offer basic pruning, for larger project needs a certified arborist will need to be called in.
Pressure washing is the best solution for cleaning exterior hard surfaces. It is the most effective and efficient method for cleaning off dirt, built up stains , rust, graffiti, mildew and any other residue that may have collected on your hard surfaces.
Mulching your garden bed is a process that involves placing a material directly to your garden soil or lawn. It is generally accepted that wood mulch is used as a garden cover however we can alternatively install rock.
The size and shape will dictate how much Mulch is needed. A minimum 3 inch depth should be used to help reduce weed growth. Landscape fabric is recommended when installing Bark nuggets.
